Many devastating storms locally and beyond have people thinking more about preparedness. We want to take a minute to remind everyone of New York's "Triple Three Triple One" emergency alert system. This is a super simple way to sign up for real-time emergency and weather alerts from the New York Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services.

Sign up for alerts to your cell phone by texting the name of the NY county you live in to 333111. Start a new text message and where you enter a phone number type in 333111 and in the message area type Cattaraugus (or Allegany or Chautauqua, etc.). Only one sign up per message so if you want to sign up for alerts from multiple counties then send an individual message with the next county name also to 333111.

Spread the word! There is no complicated website to navigate, just send a text from the cell phone you want to get the alerts. Consider helping your family, friends, and neighbors who might not be so "tech savvy" to send this quick text so they too can get alerts and be safe!
