Cattaraugus County District Attorney Ashley Smith

The District Attorney is the chief law enforcement official in the county. There is one District Attorney elected in each of the 62 counties throughout New York State. The District Attorney is responsible for prosecuting all violations of New York State law that occur within the county, including: Felonies, Misdemeanors, and Violations. The District Attorney is also an advisor, advocate, investigator and legal advisor to the grand jury and police agencies in the county, with the ultimate goal of ensuring that justice is accomplished for everyone.
The Cattaraugus County District Attorney's Office covers a diverse judicial district that includes two County Court Judges, three City Court Judges, 35 Town and Village Courts. We work to ensure the efficient and fair administration of justice in each jurisdiction, coordinating court operations, case management, and community-based initiatives throughout the region.
