1 - VOTER LIST MAINTENANCE

Bipartisan county boards routinely maintain voter lists. Records for voters who died, moved or became ineligible are removed.

Bipartisan representatives observe programming, poll work, ballot counting and certification. Candidates and their representatives may observe many tasks.

5 - PRE-ELECTION MACHINE TESTING

Before voting begins, officials conduct logic and accuracy testing to confirm the certified software and machine configuration count ballots correctly.

6 - VOTING SYSTEMS STAY OFFLINE

New York law prohibits voting systems from connecting to the internet or transmitting or receiving information wirelessly.

7 - ALL VOTERS USE PAPER BALLOTS

Voters mark paper ballots by hand or with a ballot-marking device. Officials keep the ballots secure in a bipartisan manner.

8 - SIGNATURES CONFIRM IDENTITY

For in-person and mail voting, officials compare each voter's signature with the signature on file to confirm identity.

9 - OFFICIALS PREPARE FOR PROBLEMS

County boards maintain backup plans for weather, power outages and other events that could affect voting or delay counting.

10 - POST-ELECTION AUDITS CONFIRM RESULTS

After each election, every county reviews ballots from at least 3% of voting machines to confirm machine-tabulated results.
