Cattaraugus County to Host Free Paint Recycling Event on June 6
OLEAN, NY - In a major win for local environmental conservation, Cattaraugus County is stepping forward as a regional leader in sustainability by partnering with GreenSheen Paint and St. Bonaventure University to host a Free Paint Recycling Event on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
The event will take place from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at St. Bonaventure University (Francis Hall Parking Lot on Clare Road). This high-volume initiative is designed to provide residents and local businesses with a professional, no-cost solution for disposing of leftover architectural paint, stains, and varnishes.
By hosting this event, Cattaraugus County is providing a vital service that keeps hazardous materials out of local landfills and protects the region's water table. Unlike traditional disposal programs, this partnership allows for unlimited collection of latex and oil-based products, which are then processed into new, eco-friendly GreenSheen paint at their New York manufacturing facility.
“We are thrilled to partner with Cattaraugus County, a true local leader that is putting environmental goals into action for its residents,” said GreenSheen’s Charlie Porter. “By recycling old paint locally at our Rotterdam facility, we aren’t just clearing out garages; we are working to ensure these valuable materials get a second life.”
Event Highlights:
- Accepted Items: Interior and exterior architectural paints (latex and oil-based), deck coatings, primers, stains, sealers, and varnishes.
- Condition: Items must be in their original containers with a visible label.
- Exclusions: Aerosols (spray paint), solvents, and hazardous waste other than paint cannot be accepted at this event.
Registration and More Information: Participants can find a full list of accepted items and sign up for a drop-off time at: https://circular.eco/event/olean26
