The Public Notification & Emergency Alert Program helps alert you about emergencies requiring you to take action and other important notifications relevant to your community. Partnering with local municipalities, this system lets us quickly provide critical information in various situations, such as public utility outages or disruptions, unexpected road closures, missing persons, evacuations of buildings or neighborhoods, and other important community news specific to your area.

How the Notification System May Work For You

With the Public Notification & Emergency Alert Program, you are in control. You will receive time-sensitive messages wherever you specify, such as your home, mobile or business phones, email address, text messages, and more. You pick where, you pick how and you pick to receive emergency alerts, non-emergency notifications or both. This flexibility ensures that you can stay informed in a way that suits your lifestyle and needs.  Your information is protected and will not be used for other purposes.

Emergency Alerts

Emergency Alerts are most often initiated by the County 9-1-1 center or the Office of Emergency Services to notify the public of a situation that may pose a life safety threat, or other emergency incidents that may require action by the public. Examples of alerts include: Law Enforcement Incidents that require residents to shelter in place, Information on endangered missing persons who may be in the area, evacuation notices, imminent severe weather notifications & protective actions. You can sign up for Emergency Alerts for any municipality in Cattaraugus County.

Non-Emergency Notifications

Non-Emergency notifications are most often initiated by local municipalities to provide residents with pertinent information about their communities. Such information may include utility disruptions, street closures, changes in trash collection, etc. Not all municipalities in Cattaraugus County participate in this program for non-emergency notifications. Be sure to check with your local municipality to learn how they communicate important information to their community and, if applicable, sign up for their public notification system. Those signing up for Non-Emergency Notifications may also receive emergency Alerts by default.
