Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office K9 Nichols has received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. The vest was sponsored by a fundraiser hosted by Cattaraugus Little Valley School District and embroidered with the sentiment "Gifted by Cattaraugus Little Valley School District".

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office participates in Law Enforcement Suicide Prevention Initiative.

One officer suicide is one too many. In recent years, more officers have died by suicide than were fatally shot in the line of duty. The time has come to take action to protect and serve those who protect and serve our communities.

About Us:

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office announces that K9 Nichols received a GPS tracking collar that was generously donated by an acquaintance of the late William "Bill" Nichols' brother, Jim. The Garmin Astro 430 will help his handler Tim Pence monitor and document his moves while answering calls. The collar is designed to keep K9 Nichols safe by analyzing the dog's tracking patterns and behaviors. It will also provide real time locations and give Deputy Pence the ability to track K9 Nichols up to 9 miles should they get separated.
